چکیده

ured. Morphological changes were analyzed by both multivariate and geometric morphometric methods. Results obtained by the two methods were in concordance. Shape analysis allows us to discriminate predator-induced, competitor-induced and drying-induced morphotypes. Life-history traits under isolated environmental factors were also consistent with precedent studies. In complex environments we observed that life-history plasticity was governed by abiotic factors, whereas a mixture of morphological traits was observed in response to exposure to complex environments.

Phenotypic integration of neurocranium and brain.

Evolutionary history of Mammalia provides strong evidence that the morphology of skull and brain change jointly in evolution. Formation and development of brain and skull co-occur and are dependent upon a series of morphogenetic and patterning processes driven by genes and their regulatory programs. Our current concept of skull and brain as separate tissues results in distinct analyses of these...

Integration of Brain and Skull in Prenatal Mouse Models of Apert and Crouzon Syndromes

The brain and skull represent a complex arrangement of integrated anatomical structures composed of various cell and tissue types that maintain structural and functional association throughout development. Morphological integration, a concept developed in vertebrate morphology and evolutionary biology, describes the coordinated variation of functionally and developmentally related traits of org...

FGF/FGFR Signaling Coordinates Skull Development by Modulating Magnitude of Morphological Integration: Evidence from Apert Syndrome Mouse Models

The fibroblast growth factor and receptor system (FGF/FGFR) mediates cell communication and pattern formation in many tissue types (e.g., osseous, nervous, vascular). In those craniosynostosis syndromes caused by FGFR1-3 mutations, alteration of signaling in the FGF/FGFR system leads to dysmorphology of the skull, brain and limbs, among other organs. Since this molecular pathway is widely expre...

Brain morphology in nonsyndromic unicoronal craniosynostosis.

Studies of isolated craniosynostosis have shown biomechanical and biochemical influences on the craniofacial phenotype, resulting from both genetic and epigenetic factors. Much less attention has been directed toward the morphology of the brain, despite the interactive nature of the developing skull and developing brain. The aim of this study is to define the morphology of the brain in nonsyndr...

Determination of Cranial Index in Sagittal Synostosis using Artificial Intelligent Techniques

Background: At least one main suture of skull is closed prematurely in craniosynostosis; which may lead to different skull and face deformities and various types of child developmental delay. Increased postero-anterior diameter of skull is the main characteristic of sagittal craniosynostosis. Cranial index is the most important parameter for diagnosis and monitoring of children with this deform...
